Everyone knew it’d be big, but we completely underestimated how big it would be. (If we knew, I’m sure we all would have bought stock in Nintendo before it was released.) I’m always late to the bandwagon (even though this time I have an excuse), so this last weekend was my first big experience with the game. I had no idea I’d run into 9 other people in front of my cozy town’s town hall, all attracted by a lure module set on its PokéSpot. I get to go into the city this weekend too, so I can experience the full amount of silent unity people have been telling me is present.
Compared to my real life friends who live in more populated areas, I’m at a severe disadvantage. I wish there was a solution to this. Letting Pokémon just Show Up anywhere random on the map would help. Something more creative would allow for a player to set their home location which would then, only for that player, attract some Pokemon and act as a limited PokéSpot (say, 1 PokéBall every once in a while). Although this wouldn’t happen, it’d be a nice touch to level the playing field.
(I’ve got this strange feeling… that I need to exercise, kill my battery, and murder my data plan all at once…)
Pokémon has this strange ability as a mega-franchise to unite people. From something more niche like Twitch Plays Pokémon, to something mainstream like this. I’m glad Nintendo’s first foray into the mobile market with a major IP has done so well. Hopefully, they will keep improving the game and treat the fans well. If they do, I have no doubt they will do well in these recent dark times.
By the way, I’m in Team Mystic. For no other reason than blue being my favorite color!
